PRAGUE — Slovenia will join the European Film Promotion in January, coinciding with the centennial of the first Slovenian film. It will become the 23rd member of EFP, a network supporting the promotion and export of Euro pics.
Nerina Kocjancic, Slovenian Film Fund chief of promotion and sales, told Daily Variety, “Although we produce only about five films per year, we are quite interesting because most of the films are represented in international festivals.”
The newest of these titles is Rotterdam-bound “Ruins,” the sophomore effort by “Idle Running” helmer Janez Burger.
Kocjancic sees EFP membership as absolutely necessary in increasing distribution and promotion, and imperative for the film industry of small countries.
Renate Rose, the org’s managing director, added that the rapid development of the independent audiovisual sector in Slovenia is of great interest to the EFP network.
