Screenwriter Naomi Foner Gyllenhaal, mother of actors Jake Gyllenhaal and Maggie Gyllenhaal, has penned “Grace,” a screenplay about the life of Grace Metalious, the author of the 1950s bestseller “Peyton Place.”
Pic is set up at Fox 2000 and will be produced by Carol Baum with Sandra Bullock’s Fortis Films.
Foner Gyllenhaal is also penning a new pic based on the 19th century feminist Victoria Woodhull, who opened the first women’s brokerage firm and ran for president in 1872. Pic, based on Barbara Goldsmith’s book “Other Powers,” will be produced by Kathleen Kennedy. Goldsmith will exec produce.
Foner Gyllenhaal also penned “Bee Season” currently in postproduction for Fox Searchlight which stars Richard Gere and Juliette Binoche.
She penned a pic about the life of Amy Biehl for Universal, as well. Reese Witherspoon will star and produce under her Type A Prods. with Anant Singh and Distant Horizon. Pic is based on the true story of Biehl, a 26-year-old Stanford student and Fulbright scholar who was murdered in 1993 by rioting South African youths.
Foner Gyllenhaal was nominated for an Oscar for her screenplay for the 1988 “Running on Empty.”
