Par, Rudin begin countdown to ‘Launch’

Spec by 'Buzz' scribes pits man against parents

Paramount and producer Scott Rudin have preemptively purchased comedy spec “Failure to Launch” by the scripting duo of Tom J. Astle and Matt Ember in a deal worth mid-six figures.

Story revolves around a thirtysomething man who continues to live with his parents and uses them as a way to short-circuit relationships. He falls in love with the woman of his dreams and begins to suspect she has been hired by his parents as a way to get him out of the house.

The scribes are veteran TV series showrunners who last year sold the comic script “Buzz Kill” to Fox Searchlight.

Deal was unusual in that it was brokered by both ICM and Endeavor. Spec was bought by Par prexy Donald De Line and exec VP Allie Shearmur.
