Spanish helmer Joaquin Oristrell has inked to direct “No es lo mismo” (It’s Not the Same), a stag night comedy with social underpinnings from a screenplay by Albert Espinosa, one of Spain’s prominent theater writers.
Spanish-lingo pic marks the first feature film from Barcelona TV prodco Diagonal TV, which will co-produce with Mediapro and Pentagrama. “Not the Same” turns on three friends who celebrate a stag night. One is blind, another deaf, the third has a limp.
“But the film suggests that people’s real disabilities are mental — the phobias suffered by so-called ‘healthy’ people when they think about the physically challenged,” Diagonal’s Albert Sagales said at the AFM. Pic will shoot in the spring.
Oristrell cut his teeth co-writing the screenplays of screwball comedies directed by Manuel Gomez Pereira, such as the Javier Bardem starrer “Mouth to Mouth.”
