News sells Backlot

World Brief

Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. and partner Lend Lease have sold the Fox Studios entertainment and shopping precinct in Sydney for A$52.8 million ($37 million) to a property developer.

Fox retains the studios but had been looking to unload the Backlot — once described by Murdoch as a small but interesting theme park — that shuttered in 1991 after just two years. It also wanted to get rid of the site occupied by Hoyts Cinemas and retail stores that remained after the Backlot concept failed.
