Miramax has inked Kate Hudson to produce and star in “Bride Wars.” The studio bought a pitch for the comedy, which will be written by “Saving Silverman” scribe Greg DePaul.
“Bride Wars” pits two best friends in clash over their respective wedding plans. Hudson and her Cosmic Entertainment partner Jay Cohen are producing along with Alan Riche and Tony Ludwig.
DePaul had the idea for the project and honed it with his Nine Yards Entertainment manager Matt Luber, who’ll be exec producer. They brought it to Riche and Ludwig, who drew Hudson and Cohen into the fray. Miramax exec Laura Rister and co-prexy of production Meryl Poster will shepherd it for the studio, where it is considered a priority project.
Hudson, who would play one of the battling brides, had several meetings on the project before she gave birth Wednesday to Ryder Russell Robinson, a strapping 8-pound, 11-ounce boy. Hudson’s husband, musician husband Chris Robinson, was by her side.
“I’ve enjoyed working with Kate and Jay in the past and look forward to re-teaming with them on this project,” Poster said. “They’ve got fantastic commercial instincts.” Cohen and Scott Martin will preside over the pic for Cosmic.
