Inside Move: Uma as Ulla?

Thesp in talks to fill in for Kidman on 'Producers'

Mel Brooks’ boffo tuner-turned-pic “The Producers,” which two weeks ago lost Nicole Kidman as a topliner, is in talks with Uma Thurman to replace her.

Thurman most recently toplined the two-part “Kill Bill” enterprise at Miramax and recently wrapped “Be Cool” at MGM, based on the Elmore Leonard novel that picks up where “Get Shorty” left off.

Susan Stroman-directed “Producers,” which Universal will release domestically, was skedded to start shooting in February at Brooklyn’s new Steiner Studios. There’s no word on whether Thurman’s deal will be made in time.

Kidman, shooting “Bewitched,” wouldn’t have had enough time to rehearse the intricate song-and-dance routines in “The Producers” before she headed into her next film, the Oz-set “Eucalyptus,” opposite Russell Crowe and Geoffrey Rush.

Tuner’s cast includes Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick, plus their Broadway co-stars Roger Bart and Gary Beach, joined by Will Ferrell.

Neither Brooks nor Thurman’s reps at CAA returned calls Wednesday.
