Ginsburg biopic opens Howl

'Century,' political docus also to unspool

Jerry Aronson’s 1973 biopic “The Life and Times of Allen Ginsberg,” which will be re-released this fall by New Yorker Films, will launch the second annual Howl Film Festival, unspooling Aug. 18-24 in the East Village.

Other highlights include Magnolia Pictures’ fall release “End of the Century,” a comprehensive look at the career of Queens-based punk-rock band the Ramones.

In response to the Republic National Convention, being held in Gotham Aug. 30-Sept 2, the fest will focus on consciousness-raising docs that explore American politics.

To this end Howl will screen “The Carlyle Connection,” about how the investment bank accumulated capital through investments in the defense industry; “Invisible Ballots,” an expose of electronic voting; and “We Interrupt This Empire,” a doc by Bay Area video activists about the antiwar protests that shut down San Francisco’s financial district after the U.S. invaded Iraq.
