More than 200 companies have already committed to exhibit at the upcoming November edition of the American Film Market, two-thirds of the number that took space at the AFM in February.
The first fall AFM takes place Nov. 3-10 at the Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel. The event will be linked with AFI Fest, the longest-running film festival in Los Angeles.
“We’ve had a tremendous response from AFM exhibitors,” said Jonathan Wolf, exec VP of the American Film Marketing Assn. and managing director of AFM. “Our new alliance with the AFI Fest will make the upcoming AFM bigger and better than ever.”
The confirmed exhibitors include 190 sales companies. Along with the big American players such as Miramax, Focus, Summit and New Line, there’s a strong contingent from Europe, including Celluloid Dreams, TF1, Fortissimo, StudioCanal, Pathe, Gaumont, Filmax and Lola. Asian exhibitors include Toho, Shochiku, Pony Canyon and Mirovision.
To date there’s a notable absence of Italians on the AFM list, reflecting the fact that the AFM’s fall switch has brought it into competition with Milan’s Mifed film mart. Mifed has moved its dates into October to avoid a head-to-head clash.
Aside from the Italians, major European players yet to sign up for the AFM include Wild Bunch, Sogepaq, Trust, Bavaria and the Works.
In its last February edition, the AFM had 306 exhibitors by the time it opened its doors.
