Duhamel goes to ‘Antarctica’

Thesp joins DiGilio-penned script about explorers

“Win a Date With Tad Hamilton!” star Josh Duhamel has won a lead role in “Antarctica,” the Mandeville-produced epic feature for Disney that marks the directing debut of Bruce Hendricks, the longtime head of physical production for the studio.

It’ll be a cold climate for a suddenly hot actor who emerged from the soap “All My Children” to star with James Caan in the NBC drama “Las Vegas.”

Scripted by David DiGilio,” “Antarctica” is the fact-based story of a pair of explorers forced to leave behind their team of sled dogs because of a brutal cold snap. Given the deep-freeze subject matter, it’s appropriate that the film is being shepherded by Kristin Burr. Disney got into the film by buying remake rights to a version of the film that was made in Japan.

“Antarctica” is being produced by David Hoberman, with Todd Lieberman, Roy Lee, Christine Iso and Masaru Kakutani exec producing.
