Disney has made a mid-six figure purchase of “Matrophobia: The Fear of Becoming Your Mother,” a comic pitch to be written by Lizzie Weiss for Rachel Pfeffer to producer under her Pfeffer Film banner. Deal comes just as Disney has renewed Pfeffer’s first-look pact.
Mother-daughter comedy is based on an idea Pfeffer hatched with her veep Asha Kurian. Title is based on the notion of the planet Saturn coming into a woman’s life when she is born and returning every 28 years. Saturn upends the forward momentum of a successful 28-year old woman whose 56-year-old mother shows up on her doorstep. Kurian will also be involved in a producing capacity.
Weiss most recently did a rewrite on the Wu Ping-directed Disney film “Shaolin” and is writing and exec producing with John Stockwell the WB series “Rocky Point.”
Pfeffer is also developing “The First Man” with Diane English, “Tempting Fate” with Emily Baer and “Princess Boot Camp” with Caryn Lucas.
