‘Dead,’ ‘Inside’ in Focus

Laffer to be released next year; drama in post prod'n

Focus Features has committed to a U.S. release for “Shaun of the Dead” and “Inside I’m Dancing,” both produced by WT2, the low-budget division of Working Title Films.

Comic horror pic “Shaun of the Dead” will go out via Focus’ newly formed genre label Rogue Pictures, while Damien O’Donnell’s unconventional Irish buddy movie “Inside I’m Dancing” (whose title may change) will go out under the Focus label.

Though no date has been set, Focus is understood to be planning a 1,000-print release for “Dead” early next year.

“Dead” was billed as a “zom rom com” — a zombie romantic comedy — starring and co-written by Brit comedian Simon Pegg and co-written and directed by Edgar Wright. To date it has grossed nearly $14 million from its U.K. release through UIP since its bow April 9.

“Inside I’m Dancing” is an emotional drama about two physically disabled young men whose friendship enables them to fight back against the world. Currently in post-production for release in the U.K. via UIP, drama stars James McAvoy (“Wimbledon”) and newcomer Steven Robertson, Romola Garai and Brenda Fricker. Pic was penned by Jeffrey Caine from a story by Christian O’Reilly and produced by James Flynn and Juanita Wilson.
