ContentFilm is teaming up with BBC Films, BBC Scotland and Scottish Screen to launch a low-budget production initiative focused on developing new Scottish talent.
The three partners have committed to co-produce three movies with budgets around $2 million apiece, under the collective banner Fast Forward Features. ContentFilm will distribute the pics in the U.K. and sell them internationally.
BBC Films, which is the single biggest financial contributor to the venture, will take U.K. TV rights and an equity stake.
BBC and Scottish Screen execs will jointly manage the development process in consultation with Content. The plan is to put various projects into development over the next few months, with a view to announcing the first production by next year’s Cannes.
Although the initial commitment is to co-produce three pics, the partners hope the scheme will evolve into an ongoing venture.
“With Fast Forward Features, we want to try and find ways of making films primarily with new directors in a radically different way and at a much more cost-effective price — in the manner of American independent cinema,” said BBC Films topper David Thompson.
