Cineclick closes deal on ‘Plateaus’

Supernatural children's tale popular in Japan, Korea

Cineclick Asia has closed financing with Japan’s Happinet Pictures for a feature film based on a Mongolian legend about an orphaned boy and his horse. The $2.8 million feature, “A Thousand Plateaus,” is the second deal for the Korea-based production company and distrib at AFM.

Cineclick’s first deal at AFM was for the sale of “The Doll Master” remake rights to Miramax.

The supernatural children’s tale is popular throughout Japan and Korea. First published in book form in Japan in 1960, the story has been reprinted 120 times and is considered a must-read children’s title.

Helmer Jang Sun-Woo (“Lies”) is slated to film the $2.8 million children’s tale in Mongolia for release in spring 2006.
