Indie distribution shingle Cavu Pictures has struck a deal to acquire worldwide rights to helmer Matthew Bonifacio’s “Lbs.,” which screened at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year.
Pic stars Carmine Famiglietti as an obese New Yorker who suffers a heart attack and heads to the country to battle his food addiction away from temptation and his family.
Famiglietti — who co-penned the film with Bonifacio — lost 170 pounds over the course of shooting the movie.
Cavu is eyeing a summer release.
“I hope Carmine’s powerful performance and physical transformation will help save other lives as it did his,” said Bonifacio. “Cavu shares our passion and commitment, and they clearly understand (this) is an important film.”
Pic was repped by Required Viewing’s Steven Raphael and Ira Schreck and Amy Nickin of Schreck, Rose & Dapello.
Cavu most recently rolled out Eitan Gorlin’s “The Holy Land.”
