COLOGNE — “Who Is Anna Walentynowcz,” from “The Tin Drum” helmer Volker Schlondorff, is among 28 projects allocated coin by Bavaria’s film funding body FFF Bayern. Total outlay comes to $6.3 million.
Schlondorff received $330,000 for “Anna,” the biography of an illiterate woman in postwar Gdansk who helped establish Poland’s Solidarity union. Pic stars mother-daughter German thesps Katharina Thalbach and Anna Thalbach.
The largest amount allocated by the funder, $2.1 million, went to the adaptation of children’s book “Hui Buh, the Castle Ghost,” starring Michael “Bully” Herbig.
TV two-parter “Dresden — der Brand,” about the bombing of Dresden in the final days of World War II, produced by Berlin-based Teamworx, received $1.4 million.
The body also considered documentaries for television. “Filmlegenden Deutsch” recounts the role of Teutonic filmmakers Douglas Sirk, Billy Wilder and Fritz Lang in Hollywood.
