NEW YORK — Focus Features has entered a first-look and consulting pact with indie film producer Kisha Imani Cameron and her Completion Films.
Pact is part of a push by the Universal specialty arm to nurture African cinema after the unit wrapped a yearlong study on the state of African filmmaking.
The first-look agreement comes on the heels of another such deal Focus inked with producer Damon Lee (“Undercover Brother”) and his Deacon Entertainment.
Focus production prexy John Lyons will work with Cameron to cultivate projects for Focus and its genre label, Rogue Pictures. The distributor will retain world rights on films stemming from the partnership.
Cameron’s credits include HBO Films’ upcoming “… Sometimes in April,” a drama centering on the Rwandan genocide.
She has previously held posts at Walden Media and New Line.
