Witherspoon, Chenoweth join CGI version of fairy tale

Reese Witherspoon and Kristin Chenoweth are in negotiations to voice roles in Walt Disney Feature Animation’s “Rapunzel Unbraided.”

Pic, intended as an all-CGI production, is in pre-production but has yet to be greenlit.

Producer is Phil Lofaro; production will be directed by Glen Keane.

“Unbraided” is described as a new version of the classic fairy tale with a twist. The writers are Sarah Parriott and Josie McGibbon.

Disney has not set a release date for the pic.

Witherspoon will next appear in Focus Features’ “Vanity Fair,” due for release Sept 1. She is currently filming Fox 2000’s Johnny Cash biopic “Walk the Line,” directed by James Mangold. She stars opposite Joaquin Phoenix.

Chenoweth won a Tony on Broadway for her role as Sally in the 1999 revival of “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.” She is currently filming “The Pink Panther” and is also starring in the film musical “Asphalt Beach.”
