Columbia has acquired the rights to Nick Flynn’s novel “Another Bullshit Night in Suck City” for producer Michael Costigan.
Costigan, a former Col production exec, will be returning to the studio where he has just signed a first-look production deal for his production shingle Corduroy Films. The novel will be Costigan’s first project under the new pact.
“Another Bullshit Night” is based on Flynn’s darkly comic memoir about an uncoventional relationship between a father and son. Story unfolds while the 27-year-old Flynn is working as a caseworker at a homeless shelter in Boston.
Costigan most recently exec produced Ang Lee’s “Brokeback Mountain,” starring Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal, for Focus Features. He’s also currently producing Regency Enterprise’s feature film version of the popular skein “Dallas” under director Robert Luketic; as well as an HBO series called “Motel Novella” with Joe and Anthony Russo (“Arrested Development”).
As exec VP of production at Col, Costigan oversaw such pics as “Charlie’s Angels,” “The People vs. Larry Flynt,” “Snatch” and “Bottle Rocket,” among others.
