Revolution Studios has lined up Rob Schneider and David Spade to topline baseball comedy “Bench Warmers” at Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison shingle.
Happy Madison topper Jack Giaraputo will produce “Bench Warmers,” based on an original idea from Sandler scripted by Allen Covert (“Eight Crazy Nights”) and Nick Swardson (“Malibu’s Most Wanted”).
Story centers on three men who lacked athletic childhoods but try to make up for it by forming a three-manteam that challenges nine-player youth baseball teams.
Sandler, who’s portraying a prison team quarterback in Paramount and Sony’s “The Longest Yard,” isn’t expected to star in “Bench Warmers.” Project’s being fast-tracked for a mid-April production start, contingent on finding a director and a third star to join Schneider and Spade.
Revolution partner Todd Garner and Derek Dauchy will oversee the project.
Schneider will be seen next summer in Sony’s “Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo.” “Bench Warmers” marks the first bigscreen teaming of Schneider with Spade, last seen in “Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star.”
Happy Madison’s a producer on “The Longest Yard” and the “Deuce” sequel.
