‘Passion’ stokes Polish box office

Gibson pic sells 3 mil tickets in first quarter

WARSAW — Global phenomenon “The Passion of the Christ” was a blessing for Polish B.O. admissions in the first quarter.

Mel Gibson’s film has tallied just north of 3 million tickets, pushing total tickets sold in the country to 12.2 million for the first quarter, vs. 7.5 million for the same period last year.

After “Passion,” the other top films of the quarter are “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King,” with 2.1 million tickets sold; Polish romantic comedy “Never in the Lifetime,” 1.4 million; “Brother Bear,” 1.1 million; and “Spy Kids 3D: Game Over,” 717,000.
