Fincher expected to direct pic about man who ages backwards

Warner Bros. has agreed to co-finance “Benjamin Button,” Paramount’s adaptation of the F. Scott Fitzgerald short story.

The agreement calls for Paramount to handle domestic distribution and Warner to market the pic in foreign territories.

“Benjamin Button” is being produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall. David Fincher is expected to direct a script developed by Eric Roth.

Fitzgerald’s story “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” centers on a man who, at age 50, begins aging backward and the complications that ensue when he falls in love with a woman of 30.

“Benjamin Button” has previously been in development with Rastar and Imagine. At various times, Spike Jonze and Gary Ross have been attached to direct while writers have included Jim Taylor, Robin Swicord and Charlie Kaufman.
