JOHANNESBURG — “Yesterday,” South Africa’s entry for consideration in Oscar’s foreign-language film category, will be used to spread the AIDS awareness message in Africa and India on World AIDS Day Dec. 1.
In South Africa, it will be screened free at 17 cinemas in a joint initiative by exhibitor/distributor Nu Metro, producer Anant Singh’s Videovision Entertainment, feevee M-Net, the National Film and Video Foundation and the Nelson Mandela Foundation. In India it will screen at the Intl. Film Festival of India in Goa, with Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan hosting the event.
Written and directed by Darrell Roodt, pic portrays the plight of a young mother whose husband leaves after she is diagnosed HIV positive.
