‘Inheritance’ takes 9 Robert noms

Denmark's biggest hit of 2003 is favorite for its awards

Already 2003’s No. 1 local film at the box office with 380,000 admissions, helmer Per Fly’s “Inheritance” nabbed nine nominations for Denmark’s film awards, the Roberts, which the Danish Film Academy will hand out Feb. 1 in Copenhagen.

The second installment in Fly’s trilogy on Denmark society was closely followed by Lars von Trier’s “Dogville” and Anders Thomas Jensen’s “The Green Butchers,” which both received eight noms, and Anders Gustafsson’s “Scratch,” which qualified for seven.

Produced by Ib Tardini for Zentropa Entertainments, “Inheritance” will compete with “Dogville,” Morten Arnfred’s “Move Me,” Jannik Johansen’s “Stealing Rembrandt” and Christoffer Boe’s “Reconstruction” for Feature prize.

Candidates for Children’s and Family Film include Carsten Myllerup’s “Midsummer,” Jannik Hastrup’s “The Boy Who Wanted to Be a Bear,” Aage Rais-Nordentoft’s “Kick’n’Rush,” Giacomo Campeotto’s “Nasty Brats” and “Scratch.”

“Inheritance” is also up for director (Fly), actor (Ulrich Thomsen), supporting actor (Peter Steen), supporting actress (Ghita Norby), screenplay (Fly, Mogens Rukov, Kim Leona, Dorte Hogh), costumes (Stine Gudmundsen-Holmgreen, Lotte Trolle), editing (Morten Giese) and musical score (Halfdan E).

Paul Greengrass’ “Bloody Sunday,” Fernando Meirelles’ “City of God,” Wolfgang Becker’s “Good Bye Lenin!,” Zhang Yimou’s “Hero,” Peter Mullan’s “The Magdalene Sisters” and Ken Loach’s “Sweet Sixteen” vie for non-American feature.

Nominees for U.S. feature are Alexander Payne’s “About Schmidt,” Michael Moore’s “Bowling for Columbine,” Clint Eastwood’s “Mystic River,” Peter Jackson’s “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” and Stephen Daldry’s “The Hours.”
