The Art Directors Guild has established a new awards category for excellence in production design for commercials.
Guild plans to announce five nominees for commercials on Jan. 13. Winner will be announced Feb. 12 at ceremonies at the Beverly Hilton Hotel along with winners in five categories of film and television.
To be eligible, a commercial must be 30-120 seconds in length and be designed and supervised by a production designer or art director. Paid commercials, public service announcements and promotional spots are eligible. There is a limit of three submissions per production designer or art director, and entries must be received by Dec. 3.
“It is most fitting for the Art Directors Guild to include the artistry of production design of commercials into its existing awards structure,” said awards committee c-chairs Dina Lipton and Robert A. Strohmaier Jr. “The efforts of production designers and art directors working in this area have been too long overlooked and will now be recognized and acknowledge properly.”
