An ‘Incredible’ stigma

Helmer Bird talks toons

HOLLYWOOD — During the Q&A following the Variety screening of “The Incredibles,” helmer-scribe Brad Bird vented about the stigma attached to animated pics. “It seems that people are trying to corral it into the kids’ table or Juniorville,” he said. “I’ve had reporters say, when are you going to do a real film?”

Bird said some parents are glad to have an excuse to see these pics. “It’s almost like the kids are beards for them,” the director said before exhorting the aud: “You can go with your adult friends. It’s OK to embrace your inner cartoon lover. Come out of the closet, man.”

Pete Hammond moderated the sesh Nov. 3 at the ArcLight.
