Editors embrace high-profile pic faves

The American Cinema Editors have opted for high-profile dramas and an eclectic mix of comedies as nominees for its ACE Eddie awards.

Drama noms, announced Tuesday, went to Walter Murch for Miramax’s “Cold Mountain,” Jamie Selkirk for New Line’s “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King,” Lee Smith for Fox’s “Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World,” Joel Cox for Warner’s “Mystic River” and William Goldenberg for U’s “Seabiscuit.”

Comedy nominees: Justin Krish for Fox Searchlight’s “Bend It Like Beckham”; David Ian Salter & Lee Unkrich for Disney’s “Finding Nemo”; Sarah Flack for Focus’ “Lost in Translation”; Craig Wood, Stephen Rivkin and Arthur Schmidt for Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl”; and Sandra Adair for Par’s “School of Rock.”

Documentary noms went to Richard Hankin for Notorious Pictures’ “Capturing the Friedmans”; Doug Abel, Chyld King & Karen Schmeer for Sony Classics’ “The Fog of War”; and Yana Goskaya for ThinkFilm’s “Spellbound.”

TV noms for half-hour series went to Ron Volk for NBC’s “Frasier,” Michael Benrenbaum for HBO’s “Sex and the City” and Peter Chakos for NBC’s “Will & Grace.”

Nods for miniseries or telepic for noncommercial TV: John Bloom & Antonia Van Drimmelen for HBO’s “Angels in America — Part I,” Stephen Lovejoy for Showtime’s “Good Fences” and Michael Brown & Melissa Kent for Showtime’s “The Reagans.”

Nods for miniseries or telepic for commercial TV: Mark Conte for TNT’s “Caesar — Part 2,” William Stich for Fox’s “44 Minutes: The North Hollywood Shootout” and Anita Brandt Burgoyne for Lifetime’s “Homeless to Harvard: The Liz Murray Story.”

For one-hour TV series: Scott Powell for “10pm-11pm” on Fox’s “24,” Doug Ibold & Bonnie Koehler for “Loss” on NBC’s “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” and Janet Ashikaga for “25” on NBC’s “The West Wing.”
