'Mountain,' 'King,' 'Monster' among contenders
Seven films will compete this year for an achievement in makeup Oscar.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences announced Monday that “Cold Mountain,” “The Last Samurai,” “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King,” “Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World,” “Monster,” “Peter Pan” and “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl” are all in the running to take the prize during the 76th Academy Awards on Feb. 29.
Ten-minute clip reels from each pic will now be screened for the Makeup Award nominating committee Jan. 23. Members may nominate up to three of these seven films for consideration, recommend a single film for a Special Achievement Award or recommend that no award be given in this category.
Any nominated films will be announced along with nominations in 24 other categories Jan. 27.
