'Tomorrow,' 'O.C.,' NBA countdown to bow

Time is literally of the essence for entertainment flacks trying to draw attention to projects.

In the last two months, journos have been bombarded with mini-clocks that count down the days, hours, minutes and seconds until a particular event.

The DVD release of “The Day After Tomorrow” and the return of “The O.C.” both got the countdown treatment with desk or keychain chronometers, as did the start of the new NBA season.

Reporters, forever under deadline pressure, no doubt welcome the addition of yet another ticking clock to their already-cluttered desks.
