Channel 4 in the U.K. has released online a self-promotional ad that pushes swearing through offensive, past ludicrous and all the way into hilarious.
In the ad, celebrities from series currently showing on Channel 4 answer an unstated question that seems to be “Tell us the worst swear word you’ve ever used,” and the stars come through with some creatively offensive doozies.
The ad appears on a plain page with nothing but the flash-based video. The site, which displays the title “**more funny shit brought to you by updater**”, actually pulls the video directly from Channel 4’s own servers, but there seems to be no way to view it from Channel 4’s Web site directly.
The “Updater” Web site is likely a site set up by Channel 4 itself. It seems to have held no previous content and was registered in December. It’s a great piece of viral marketing, showing that less design can sometimes be more effective. The site is generating plenty of visits and media coverage as well, and has quickly become a popular URL in the blog scene.
