Warner Music is giving its fans the code for ringtones.
Label is teaming with wireless marketing company Mobileway to provide information on its CDs and other promotional material that let users download ringtones by sending the code in a text message on their cellphones.
First album to include ringtone codes will be Brian Setzer Orchestra’s “The Ultimate Collection,” which comes out Tuesday.
Fans who enter the codes in their phone will be able to download electronic ringtones for $1.99, and ringtones with complete music and vocals for $2.49.
Deal is the first that incorporates wireless information into a major label’s CD packaging.
Ringtones will be offered on albums from all six Warner labels. The company plans to expand the program to its Atlantic, Lava, and Warner Music Latina labels later this year to include screensavers and wallpaper.
Music companies have been expanding quickly into the mobile ringtone space, one of the fastest-growing segments of the music biz. Studies have found the global market for ringtones was worth between $1 billion and $3 billion last year.
