“Hee Haw” is coming to DVD.
Time Life has picked up retail rights to the variety show, which began as a summer replacement series on CBS in 1969 and after two years on the net ran in syndication for 22 more and a total of 585 episodes.
A compilation of episodes is now available through TV ads only. Beginning May 18, WEA will distribute a different and slightly smaller collection filled primarily with episodes from the variety series’ most popular early seasons.
Another collection will be offered in midsummer on a half-hour infomercial.
Time Life licensed the program from Gaylord Entertainment.
Time Life has distributed titles such as “Monty Python’s Flying Circus,” “Beavis & Butthead” and “The Muppet Show” by direct-response only but has tried retail before with “Russell Simmons’ Def Comedy Jam.”
