Co. also announces administrative reorganization

COLOGNE — Bertelsmann CEO Gunter Thielen will become chairman of the Bertelsmann Foundation’s management board when his CEO contract expires in September 2007.

Thielen headed the Foundation, which controls 57.6% of the Bertelsmann Group, from October 2001 until August 2002, when he succeeded Thomas Middelhoff as group topper. Other shareholders are the Mohn family with 25.1% and Groupe Bruxelles Lambert with 17.3%.

News was announced by Bertelsmann patriarch Reinhard Mohn along with a reorganization of the Foundation’s administrative structure. As of January, it will have a management board and a supervisory board similar to listed companies.

Heribert Meffert heads the management board; other members are Mohn’s wife, Liz; his daughter, Brigitte; Johannes Meier; and Peter Weidenfeld. Ernst Buschor will chair the supervisory board from January.
