Springer wants Hamburg 1 control

World Brief

German publisher Axel Springer is looking to become the sole owner of metropolitan weblet Hamburg 1.

Springer, which has 6.65% in the station, said Friday it would exercise an option to buy a majority share owned by German news agency DFA, which NBC acquired last fall.

Springer has held its minority stake in Hamburg 1, formerly part of the Kirch Group’s regional TV stations, since its establishment in 1995.

Last year, it withdrew from various TV production activities but still holds an 11.48% stake in Haim Saban’s ProSiebenSat 1.
