It was perhaps inevitable. If Hollywood liberals and Al Qaeda terrorists merit being plastered on playing cards, why not some hybrid of the two?
The result: Starz Behind Barz, cards that feature the mugshots of law-breaking celebs, along with details of their misdemeanors.
Michael Jackson holds rank as — surprise — the joker, because, as the deck’s creator Smokey Burns says, “You’ve seen his mug.”
Al Pacino is king of spades (his qualifications: being arrested for carrying a concealed weapon in a car when he was 21).
Tim Allen is the seven of clubs (drunk driving in ’97). (“Seventy-five percent of them are for drunk driving,” Burns says.)
Since January, a few hundred thousand Starz decks have been sold on the Internet and at Urban Outfitters. Soon they’ll be available at 7-Eleven stores.
While the deck includes most of the usual suspects — Hugh Grant, Dennis Hopper, Nick Nolte — there is one glaring omission: Martha Stewart.
“We’ve been unable to obtain her mugshot,” Burns says.
Seems the happy homemaker at least somewhat cleaned up after her mess.
