Frulla in after Scherrer ousted

MONTREAL — Prime Minister Paul Martin on Tuesday tapped Liza Frulla Minister of Canadian Heritage in charge of cultural matters.

Former minister Helene Scherrer was defeated in the June 28 federal election.

Frulla was the minister of culture in the provincial Quebec government from 1990 to 1994, hosted a French-lingo TV show on the pubcaster Radio-Canada and did a stint as VP of a Montreal radio station.

“We see her appointment as a sign that this government is prepared to take cultural issues seriously and provide our industry with the support and investment it needs,” said Thor Bishopric, national president of actors’ union ACTRA.
