RealNetworks’ loss doubles

41% jump in consumer revs driven by subscriptions

Digital media content and technology company RealNetworks generated revenue of $60.4 million in the first quarter, up 29% from a year ago. Increase was driven in large part by a 41% jump in consumer revenue from its online music, game and video subscription services.

Company’s net loss nearly doubled, however, to $10.4 million, due to a write-off from the end of its content relationship with the PGA and costs of its antitrust lawsuit against Microsoft.

Shares in Real declined less than 1% to $6.04 Thursday.
