While Democrats are obviously hoping for a lively National Convention at the FleetCenter in Boston from July 26-29, the Massachusetts Democratic Party has organized a world premiere screening of “American Wake,” a Maureen Foley-directed drama.
Screening and a reception will be held July 28 at the Ritz-Carlton in Boston Common, co-hosted by Massachusetts Democratic Party chairman Philip W. Johnston and actor and political activist Alec Baldwin.
“American Wake” stars the pic’s co-writer, Billy Smith, a former Boston cop and a marine who fought in the Gulf War before taking to the Gotham stage in “Still Life.” Also starring is Sam Amidon, a New England folk fiddler. Pic’s about a fireman and a musician who defy expectations of others to pursue their dreams. The film was shot around Boston by Foley, a resident of Cambridge.
“Screening ‘American Wake’ during the convention is a special opportunity to showcase the vibrancy of the arts in Massachusetts on a national stage,” said Johnston.
