Biz audits an artist’s right

AFTRA intends to hold industry accountable

Recording artists under royalty contracts now have the statutory right to audit record companies.

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed the Recording Industry Accounting Practices Act into law last week, codifying an artist’s right to hire auditors on a contingency fee basis and to audit in groups.

“AFTRA is under no illusion that the problem has been solved, but the industry has been put on notice and we intend to hold them accountable,” said Rebecca Rhine, assistant national executive director, American Federation of Television & Radio Artists.
