Alcoa beat Eye

Letter to the editor

To the Editor:

In Michael Schneider’s otherwise excellent piece (“Eye tunes up for ‘Scrooge,'” Daily Variety, Jan. 20), the fact checkers slipped up.

“Scrooge” will not be the first television musical adaptation of “A Christmas Carol.” That honor goes to “The Stingiest Man in Town,” written by Janice Torre & Fred Speilman and aired on the Alcoa Hour in the 1950s.

It starred Basil Rathbone, Vic Damone, Johnny Desmond, Robert Weede, Patrice Munsel, Martyn Green & The Four Lads. It was produced by Joel Spector.
