Zee is quick to pick up on fashion Trendz

NEW DELHI — India’s largest network, Zee Telefilms, launched 24-hour fashion pay channel Trendz May 1. It’s an alternative to Paris-based Fashion TV, whose skimpily clad models often offend Indian viewers.

Local fashion features heavily with international content from U.S.-based Video Fashion Network, USA.

Channel head Sunil Khanna said the new channel will help Indians keep up with the best of Indian and international style.

Meanwhile, Fashion TV, which ran foul of lawmakers two years ago for its nudity, is to help Indian Airlines spruce up the image of its female staff.

The idea to dress the state-owned carrier’s ground and air staff in traditional but fashionable sarees came from FTV itself, said Anita Horam, head of FTV’s programming and creative services in India.

The channel, distributed in India through the Mumbai-based Modi Entertainment Network, carries two hours of dedicated programming on Indian designers.
