NEW YORK — ABC News said Tuesday it has tapped correspondent John Stossel to co-anchor its signature mag show “20/20” with Barbara Walters.
Stossel, an award-winning journalist who has reported for the newsmag show for 22 years, replaces John Miller, who recently left to work for the Los Angeles Police Department.
ABC News prexy David Westin said Stossel has “one of the most distinctive voices in network news today and was the logical choice to join Barbara at the anchor desk.”
Stossel will debut in his new role May 23.
“I am delighted that John will be my co-anchor,” said Walters. “We have been working together for years, and now we can share the whole program together. It will be exciting and fun.”
Stossel is known for his reporting on family issues, including addiction and parenting. In addition to his “Family Fix” segments, he has been featured in a weekly segment titled “Give Me a Break.”
“Barbara and John have proven chemistry, already sharing the ’20/20′ desk when John does his ‘Give Me a Break’ feature,” said exec producer David Sloan. “I know the viewers will embrace this pairing wholeheartedly.”
