BERLIN — German broadcaster RTL II and Discovery Communications on Monday announced the launch of Animal Planet as part of a new branded programming block on the web.
Move expands Discovery’s presence in Germany, where company has programming deals with commercial web ProSieben, pubcaster ZDF and pay TV broadcaster Premiere.
The two-hour weekly Animal Planet block on RTL II, which includes “The Crocodile Hunter” and “The Jeff Corwin Experience,” premiered May 11 and will continue to air Sunday afternoons.
Patrick Hoerl, general manager of Discovery Channel in Germany, said, “RTL II is an ideal home for Animal Planet’s top quality non-fiction entertainment that spans the world, bringing viewers close to amazing animals and the raw power of the natural world.
