A $24 million sci-fi TV series will be shot in South Africa this year after a South African/Canadian co-production deal was sealed at Cannes for the project, which has been in development for four years.
“Charlie Jade,” 22 hourlong segs, will be co-produced by Cape Town-based Chris Roland and Robert Wertheimer of The Imaginarium and Cine-group of Montreal. The budget is unprecedented for a South African TV production.
Three directors will be Canadian while six episodes will be helmed by a South African.
Distribution is by Park Entertainment and broadcasting partners are Chum City of Canada and the South African Broadcasting Corp.
