Dutch pubcaster BNN has its finger on the pulse of teen viewers, but other parts of the anatomy are getting a rise with older auds.
Paradoxically, BNN’s latest series, “Neuken Doe Je Zo!” (“This Is How You Fuck”), is drawing hoards of 50-plus tube-watchers while the youth tune out.
The educational program features graphic depictions of sex topics ranging from putting on a condom to the ins and outs of oral sex and finding the G-spot.
But while the show has grabbed on average 18% share of the aud and an 8.7 rating in its 10 p.m. Monday timeslot in its first three weeks, it has clearly clicked more with the senior set than the expected teen aud.
It’s averaging a 9.7 rating among 50-plussers, while pulling in a weak 4.7 in 13-19.
Chalk up the disparity to the hip factor, says BNN director Maarten van Dijk.
“Older people want to know what younger people are thinking about making love and doing it,” says Van Dijk, Younger people, on the other hand, want to look cool, and watching a how-to on sex, no matter how racy, may not fit the bill.
Van Dijk says the youth gen could get a few pointers, though.
“Young people in Holland learn how to do it by watching porn movies and love scenes on TV or on film,” he says, but the positions choreographed for a camera may not be ideal if you want maximum enjoyment minus the lens.
The show is pulling in an 8.7 rating among 20- to 49-year-olds, successful enough that Van Dijk says BNN is now considering launching a sequel aimed at more experienced lovers.
