Fox, CBS finales top Monday

Fox sneaked away with a Monday victory among young adults thanks to a special edition of “American Idol” and the season finale of “Mr. Personality,” according to preliminary nationals from Nielsen. CBS dominated in total viewers behind the expanded season finales of “Everybody Loves Raymond” and “CSI: Miami,” while NBC did well with its Martha Stewart movie.

“American Idol” (7.3/20 in adults 18-49, 16.7 million viewers overall) prevailed with ease in the 8 o’clock hour, and the unscripted “Mr. Personality” (5.6/13 in adults 18-49, 11.4 million viewers overall) ended its brief run on a strong note, placing second in 18-49 and leading its hour in adults 18-34 (5.9/15).

At CBS, “CSI: Miami” led the way (projected 7.4/18 in adults 18-49, 19.5 million viewers overall), easily leading its 9:45-11 timeslot in key demos. “Everybody Loves Raymond” won convincingly as well (7.2/17 in adults 18-49, 21.7 million viewers overall), helping the Eye net take the night in adults 25-54 and place a close second in 18-49.

NBC’s “Martha Inc.: The Story of Martha Stewart” (5.2/12 in adults 18-49, 14 million viewers overall) did very well despite tough competish, ranking as the season’s No. 1 movie in 18-49.

ABC remained fourth, although its three-hour “50th Anniversary Celebration” (3.6/9 in adults 18-49, 11.2 million viewers overall) produced the net’s best non-news Monday averages since January.

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: Fox, 6.5/17; CBS, 6.1/15; NBC, 4.5/11; ABC, 3.6/9.

In total viewers: CBS led with 17.4 million.
