‘Fear,’ ‘Raymond’ pace Monday

NBC’s “Fear Factor” and CBS’ “Everybody Loves Raymond” were the top-rated programs on Monday, a night that saw the fewest hours of news coverage on the broadcast nets – one – since the war in Iraq began last week.

According to preliminary nationals from Nielsen, NBC captured the night in both adults 18-49 and total viewers behind an original episode of “Fear Factor” (6.2/16 in adults 18-49, 15.6 million viewers overall) and the “Miss USA” pageant (4.4/11 in adults 18-49, 11.4 million viewers overall). Although “Fear” was off a bit from its recent scores, it dominated at 8, while “Miss USA” was up more than 50% in 18-49 vs. last year’s airing on CBS (on a Friday).

CBS, second in 18-49 and first in 25-54 with a lineup of repeats, was led by slot-winning “Everybody Loves Raymond” (5.5/13 in adults 18-49, 15.2 million viewers overall) and “CSI: Miami” (4.3/11 in adults 18-49, 12.1 million).

ABC, which went with an hour of sustained (ad-free) news coverage at 8, saw “The Practice,” heavily promoted during the Academy Awards, surge to its best numbers since moving to Mondays (third-place 3.5/8 in adults 18-49, 13.4 million). Another new seg of the legal drama at 10 averaged a 3.2/8 in the demo.

Fox continues to get sub-par ratings for its reality skein “Married By America” (fourth-place 3.2/8 in adults 18-49, 6.4 million), although it built on the half-hour. At 8, net’s “Boston Public” grabbed a third-place 3.5/9 in adults 18-49.

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: NBC, 5.0/12; CBS, 4.5/11; Fox, 3.4/8; ABC, 3.1/8 (includes one hour of sustained news coverage).

In total viewers: NBC, 12.8 million; CBS, 12.6 million; ABC, 9.8 million; Fox, 7.4 million.
