‘Fame’ shows talent as preem wins Wed.

Allen-hosted series led in adults, total viewers

HOLLYWOOD — One week after “American Idol” ended its season with a big finale, NBC’s new talent show “Fame” opened to winning ratings Wednesday opposite mostly repeat competition.

Preem of “Fame,” hosted by Debbie Allen and based on the movie and TV drama of the same name, led its two-hour timeslot in adults 18-49 (4.5/13) and total viewers (10.55 million), according to Nielsen — NBC’s best 18-49 result in the time period since Dec. 11.

NBC points out that the 4.5 rating is comparable to the 4.8 that Fox’s “American Idol” bowed to last summer.

“Fame” defeated second-place Fox’s repeat comedy block by 45% in adults 18-49, peaking in the 9 o’clock half-hour (5.1/14) and then dipping slightly at 9:30 (5.0/13). It grabbed a 16 or 17 share in all female demos.

One-hour segs of “Fame” will air regularly at 8, beginning next week.

Between Tuesday’s “Dog Eat Dog” and Wednesday’s “Fame,” NBC has won all eight of its firstrun unscripted half-hours in 18-49 this week. Net returns the unscripted courtroom skein “Crime & Punishment” on Sunday and bows dating show “For Love or Money” on Monday.
