AMSTERDAM — Endemol format “Split Decision” has been sold to Cactus Prods. in Tunisia for broadcast on Etablissement Radiofussion Television Tunisieene (ERTT).
It’s the first time that Endemol has sold any of its formats directly into Northern Africa and it’s the first time that a foreign format will air on Tunisian TV.
In the gamer, 12 contestants answer rapid-fire questions in a first round, leaving two players to answer multiple-choice questions on a state-of-the-art game board in hopes of winning 100,000 Tunisian dinars ($77,000).
The weekly format will be broadcast in Arabic. Cactus executive producer Sami Fehri, who will also host the show, said Cactus has “bought into Endemol’s extensive knowledge of creating and producing some of the world’s favorite formats.”
Ed Louwerse, licensing manager at Endemol Intl., says the sale to Northern Africa opens up “a whole new territory” to the some 500 formats in the Endemol catalog.
Also in Africa, Chantal Sturkenboom, managing director of Endemol South Africa since it opened in 1997, will leave to start up her own media consulting company, Mediaworx. Endemol will be one of her first clients.
Harrie Linders, manager corporate development at Endemol Holding, will fill her role on Oct. 1. Linders has worked in Endemol’s interactive division as well as in the South African office. Prior to that he worked for both Bertelsmann and BOL.com in the Netherlands.
Linders reports to Ronald Goes, Endemol chief operating officer and a member of Endemol’s executive board.
