LONDON –- Viacom’s MTV will host the 10th MTV Europe Music Awards in Edinburgh on Nov. 6, and is building a 6000 capacity venue in Western Harbor, Leith, to accommodate the event.
Edinburgh joins the ranks of Barcelona (2002), Frankfurt (2001), Stockholm (2000), Dublin (1999), Milan (1998), Rotterdam (1997), London (1996) Paris (1995) and Berlin (1994) to play host city to the event dubbed the music ‘Oscars.’
The MTV Europe Music Awards will air live to MTV Europe’s 110 million homes, and then to a potential worldwide audience of 1 billion people via MTV’s network of global channels and worldwide syndication deals. In 2002, terrestrial syndication of the show reached millions of households in more than 28 countries.
Brent Hansen, president and chief executive of MTV Networks Europe, said, “We have wanted to bring the show to Scotland for a long time and this year’s event will be extra special as we will be celebrating 10 years of the MTV Europe Music Awards. This unique venue, combined with the vibrancy and energy of Edinburgh -– and our 10 year celebrations -– promise one of our most electrifying shows ever!”
